Olson says he touted Simon for new job

Miles Simon is out as assistant coach at Arizona, but basketball coach Lute Olson said on Jody Oehler’s radio show on 1490 AM on Tuesday that he’s put in a good word for Simon for a possible opening at Stanford.

Olson, who is out of town for a pair of granddaughter graduations, has declined to speak of Simon’s dismissal to the Citizen, but told Oehler it was “an administrative” decision.

Arizona athletic director Jim Livengood on Monday again declined to speak about Simon’s nonrenewal, saying he doesn’t talk about personnel issues.

Olson said he’s spoken to different programs, letting them know, “It’s not a case of my being unhappy with anything that Miles had done.”

• Olson said what Nic Wise decides to do is up to him. Wise, who would be a junior this fall, said he’s “50-50″ on returning to the team.

“I’ve always been a firm believer if someone wants to be there or they don’t, and if they don’t, they should make their move,” Olson said.

Not a ringing endorsement for a sure return, is it?

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
