Suspected bank robber killed in Dallas; guard hurt

DALLAS — A robbery suspect was killed inside a bank after he wounded an armed security guard, police said.

The man entered a branch of Chase Bank in south Dallas on Tuesday afternoon. He shot at the security guard, who was grazed in the upper body, police said. The guard told officers he had exchanged gunfire with the gunman but wasn’t sure if he had hit the man.

Several customers and employees had fled the bank by the time officers arrived, and more fled as police tactical units prepared to enter the building.

Officers found the body of the suspect after entering the building. His identity has not been confirmed.

Dallas police Chief David Kunkle said authorities are still interviewing witnesses.

The security guard was listed in good condition.

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
