Santa Cruz River Farmers’ Market opens Jan. 22.

The Santa Cruz River Farmers’ Market is opening its new year with a “Stretch Your Food Dollar With Healthy Eating” event.

The event will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Jan. 22 on the northeast corner of West Speedway and North Riverview boulevards, between the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind and El Rio Neighborhood Center.

The event will include free food samples, recipes, activities for children and presentations on how to eat healthy on a budget.

Local produce selections at the market will include salad and cooking greens, carrots, turnips, beets, peas, radishes, cabbage, apples, citrus, pecans and more.

After its opening, the market will be open 3 to 6 p.m. Thursdays.
