6-8, 290-pound tackle ready to play for the Wildcats

Not that long ago, Shane Zink envisioned playing for Arizona basketball coach Lute Olson.

The 6-foot-8, 290-pound left tackle will be on the field for UA football coach Mike Stoops instead.

The starting left tackle prospect from Shasta (Calif.) College was en route to Tucson to start school after accepting and qualifying for the spring semester.

“I have always wanted to play basketball for Arizona when I was younger. I was always watching Arizona coach Lute Olson. To play at Arizona now is pretty cool,” Zink said.

Zink was pretty good on the hardwood as a senior at Enterprise High School in Redding, Calif., averaging 16.1 points and 9 rebounds per game.

He could crack the starting lineup for the football team with Arizona losing starting tackles Eben Britton and James Tretheway.

He will get into the mix with the chance to participate in spring drills, in late February to early March.

“I was sending out tapes and when the coaches got back from the Las Vegas Bowl they must have seen them and gave me a call,” Zink said. “They said they had a need at my position and I might have a chance to play right away. That is what I’m hoping for.”

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
