Tucson police have received more reports of a “hit man” e-mail scheme, police said Friday morning.
The e-mail tells recipients that they or a “loved one” will be kidnapped unless ransom is paid, said Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a Tucson police spokesman.
The sender then asks recipients to respond via e-mail within 48 hours to a wire transfer and threatens bodily harm if the ransom is not received, Pacheco said.
The scheme is not new. Two additional versions appeared in 2008, he said.
He said people should be wary of unsolicited e-mails.
People who receive threatening e-mails are encouraged to file a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center, www.IC3.gov.
