ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Daniel Faris had career highs with 28 points and 13 rebounds, lifting New Mexico to an 83-71 win over Nebraska in the NIT’s first round on Tuesday night.
The Lobos (22-11) advanced to play Thursday at Notre Dame.
Faris, a 6-foot-9 center, scored 18 points and collected nine rebounds in the second half.
New Mexico’s Tony Danridge scored 18 and Chad Toppert broke out of a shooting slump with 15 points.
San Diego State 65, Weber State 49: At San Diego, Lorrenzo Wade had 20 points and 10 rebounds as San Diego State (24-9) won.
Davidson 70, South Carolina 63: At Columbia, S.C., Stephen Curry scored 32 points as Davidson (27-7) won.
Rhode Island 68, Niagara 62: At Lewiston, N.Y., Kahiem Seawright scored 20 points in the second half – including all 10 for Rhode Island (23-10) during its critical run.
Penn State 77, George Mason 73: At State College, Pa., Talor Battle scored eight of his game-high 24 points in overtime and tied the game with a 3-pointer at the end of regulation as Penn State advanced.
Kentucky 70, UNLV 60: At Lexington, Ky., Jodie Meeks scored 19 points and Patrick Patterson added 16 as Kentucky (21-13) got past UNLV in the Wildcats’ first NIT appearance in three decades.
Notre Dame 70, UAB 64: At South Bend, Ind., Luke Harangody scored four of his 22 points and had a blocked shot during a decisive 10-point run to lead Notre Dame (19-14).
