Doug Davis cruised in his return to the mound for the Diamondbacks after missing a start with tightness in his biceps.

He held Milwaukee without a hit in 2 1/3 scoreless innings Wednesday, but Arizona lost 4-1 at Tucson Electric Park.

Davis, a left-hander, struck out two, walked one and hit a batter.

“I felt really good out there, sometimes too good, overthrowing a little bit,” Davis said.

Davis said he did not completely test his biceps muscle because “I wasn’t real confident in snapping off the curveball as of right now.” He said he’s sure that his confidence in the arm will improve in the coming starts.

“All in all it was a great day,” Davis said.

Not for Arizona batters.

The Diamondbacks’ lone hit was Augie Ojeda’s RBI single in the sixth inning off Milwaukee starter Yovani Gallardo. The right-hander, 23, held Arizona hitless through five innings.

Gallardo missed virtually all of last season with knee injuries.

Notable: Manager Bob Melvin said Arizona’s Eric Byrnes will make his spring debut Friday in center field against the Angels in Tempe. Byrnes (hamstring) played left and went 1 for 4 with a homer in a minor league game Tuesday. . . . The D’backs notified right-hander Jailen Peguero that he will be released. . . . Arizona is off Thursday.

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
