Warning to Wildcat fans from police: beer and baskets don’t mix

University of Arizona basketball fans beware.

Beer and buckets don’t mix, especially on Friday.

The Tucson Police Department will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint somewhere within the city limits during the evening hours Friday.

The UA men’s basketball team, a 12-seed in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, faces No. 1-seed Louisville at 4:07 p.m. in a televised game that day in Indianapolis..

It is the first time since 2005 that UA has made it to the Sweet 16.

“Our goal is to reduce the number of collisions that involve impaired drivers and lower the injuries and deaths associated with these types of collisions,” Tucson Police Sgt. Tim Reese said in a press release.

“By conducting the checkpoint, we will be able to increase the awareness of motorists about the dangers of impaired driving, deter those who may be impaired from driving and detect and investigate DUI offenses at the checkpoint.”

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
