Capel, Oklahoma working on new contract

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel says he plans to stay with the Sooners.

Capel and university president David Boren both say that work is underway on a new contract for the coach, who guided Oklahoma to a 30-6 record and the round of eight in the NCAA tournament.

In recent days, Capel has been mentioned as a candidate for coaching vacancies at Georgia, Virginia, Arizona and Memphis, although he has said nothing about his job status until Friday.

Last June, university regents approved a two-year contract extension through July 2014 for Capel and raised his annual guaranteed compensation by $300,000 to $1.05 million.

Boren says Oklahoma intends to provide a reasonable raise for Capel.

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
