Man run over, killed at truck stop may have been homeless

A man run over and killed in a truck stop parking lot by a tractor-trailer on Monday morning may have been a homeless man sleeping in the parking lot.

The trucker apparently did not realize he had run over the man, whose body was found on the lot, wrapped in a blanket, said Deputy Dawn Barkman, a sheriff’s spokeswoman.

The man’s name is being withheld until relatives can be found and told of his death, and the trucker’s name is being withheld because he has not been cited in the case, Barkman said.

The man’s body was found about 5 a.m. at the Triple T Truck Stop, on East Benson Highway near South Craycroft Road, Barkman said.

“There are a lot of homeless people in that area,” Barkman said. “There are camps all over that area.

“He may have lied down to sleep not realizing it was a parking lot.”

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
