A Pima County Jail corrections sergeant was shot in the leg early Tuesday in the jail parking lot, a Tucson police spokesman said.
The sergeant, whom police did not name, suffered injuries that were not life threatening, Officer Chuck Rydzak said.
He had been on duty at the minimum security Mission Facility, 1801 S. Mission Road, when he felt a sharp pain in his leg and realized he had been shot, Rydzak said.
Police received the emergency call about 4:15 a.m. and sent officers from three divisions – the canine unit, air support and snipers from the SWAT team – to search the area for the shooter, Rydzak said.
He said South Mission Road was closed for several hours. Police did not find the shooter and have no suspects.
