Fire destroyed a home Tuesday morning where a man was found slain Saturday, police and fire officials said.

The vacant, boarded-up home at 1812 W. Astolat Road sustained an estimated $150,000 of damage, Tucson Fire spokeswoman Capt. Tricia Tracy said. Flames also spread to the home next door, causing an estimated $50,000 in damage, mostly to a carport and storage room.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was not immediately determined, Tracy said, but it appeared there was a “good chance” the fire started in the more heavily damaged home.

Saturday, police found the body of Dominic D. Sandoval, 49, at the 1812 W. Astolat home after his ex-wife reported his slaying.

Officers went to the home, which the victim shared with his son, Rocky J. Sandoval, 25, and also went to the ex-wife’s midtown home, where the son was arrested, police said.

The younger Sandoval was booked into the Pima County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder and ordered held on $175,000 bail.

Police have not released a cause of death in the case or a motive for the killing.

Police spokesman Sgt. Fabian Pacheco said only that investigating officers found “evidence consistent with a violent confrontation” in the home shared by the Sandoval men.

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
