UA baseball team loses finale of series with Oregon State

The University of Arizona baseball team dropped its fourth straight Pac-10 series with a 8-3 loss to No. 22 Oregon State on Saturday at Sancet Stadium.

UA (14-16, 3-9) won the opener of the three-game set before dropping the final two.

Bobby Coyle was 2 for 3 for UA, while Dwight Childs drove in two runs.

Donn Roach (1-4) took the loss, allowing five earned runs in 2 1/3 innings. Jorge Reyes (5-1) won for OSU, giving up three runs in 7 1/2 innings.

The Wildcats host New Mexico for the start of a two-game series at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

UA softball

Saturday’s game between No. 10 Arizona and No. 5 Arizona State at Hillebrand Stadium was stopped in the third inning due to rain.

The game was tied at 2. No makeup date has been set yet.

UA hosts Stanford at 7 p.m. Friday.

UA men’s golf

Arizona finished tied for fifth at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe on Saturday, finishing with a 5-over 857.

ASU won the event with a 14-under 838.

Rich Saferian led Wildcat individuals with a 2-under 211, good for a tie for third.

UA will next compete in the Pac-10 Championships from April 27-29 in Seattle.

UA women’s tennis

UCLA dropped the Wildcats to 1-6 in Pac-10 play with a 4-2 win over host Arizona on Sunday.

Natasha Marks won at No. 2 singles for UA, while Sarah Landsman won at No. 3. The match started Saturday but was halted by rain.

UA (10-9) hosts Portland State at 1 p.m. Friday in its final home match of the season.

UA men’s tennis

The Wildcats lost their third straight match Saturday, falling 5-2 at No. 9 UCLA.

No. 18-ranked Arizona got wins in singles from No. 1 Jay Goldman and No. 4 Ravid Hazi.

The team will next compete in the Pac-10 Championships from April 23-26 in Ojai, Calif.

Pima baseball

The Aztecs split a doubleheader with visiting South Mountain on Saturday, winning 5-0 and losing 8-2.

Mike Lachapelle (Sahuaro) went the distance in game one, allowing only three hits with five strikeouts to improve to 4-4.

Marc Damon (Tucson High) and P.J. Ortega (Tucson High) each had two hits in the opener.

Pima (27-18-1) hosts Mesa at noon Tuesday for a doubleheader.

Pima softball

The Aztecs fell to 46-12 after being swept in a doubleheader by host Eastern Arizona on Saturday. Scores were 9-6 and 4-0.

Pima visits Central Arizona at 2 p.m. Tuesday for a doubleheader.
