Sophomore stops Lobos in debut start

Joe Allison was on his game in his first collegiate start Tuesday.

The University of Arizona pitcher allowed only three runs in six innings in his starting debut as the Wildcats beat New Mexico 9-3 at Sancet Stadium.

Allison, a sophomore, allowed six hits and didn’t walk anyone against the potent Lobos (28-9).

Jason Stoffel gave up one hit in 1 1/2 innings to earn his seventh save of the season.

UA scored runs in each of the first four innings to take a 5-1 lead. The Wildcats later broke the game open with three runs in the eighth to conclude the scoring.

UA’s Shaun Cooper went 3 for 3 and hit his second homer of the year, while Kyle Stiner was 3 for 3 with two runs.

Brad Glenn and Bobby Coyle each drove in two runs for the Wildcats (15-16).

Starter Bobby Moore (4-2) took the loss for New Mexico, giving up three runs in 1 1/2 innings.

The teams conclude the two-game nonconference series with a 3 p.m. game Wednesday.

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
