Mabius just not that into ‘Ugly Betty’ pairing

If Eric Mabius has his way, his character will not hook up with America Ferrera's Betty anytime soon.

NEW YORK – Love is in the air this season on “Ugly Betty.”

If you read message boards and fan Web sites, many viewers of the ABC comedy are rooting for what may seem an unlikely couple: Betty and her ladies man boss, Daniel Meade.

There are even montages of their scenes together set to romantic music on YouTube.

Despite the hype, Eric Mabius, who plays Meade, says the hookup won’t happen if he has anything to say about it. “That would be the equivalent of us jumping the shark,” the 37-year-old says.

Betty and her playboy boss have gotten romantic in other international versions of the show and Mabius says it’s been the swan song for those productions.

“In all the other series … they get married and the show ends! I’m not too excited about that idea!”

Versions of the show have aired in more than one dozen countries worldwide.

“Ugly Betty,” now in its third season, airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC, although it is on hiatus.

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
