Arizona superintendent suggests closing school if flu found

PHOENIX – Arizona state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne says he’s recommending that a school be closed if it has a confirmed case of swine flu.

Horne said Tuesday that closing a campus with a confirmed case could help stop the spread of the virus.

In a memo to school officials, Horne urged educators to encourage students and staff with symptoms to stay home.

He also suggested they continue to promote proper hygiene, including frequent and thorough hand washing and covering coughs and sneezes.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.
