Man abducted on SW Side and dumped nude, injured across town

A man kidnapped from a park Wednesday was shot, driven across town, then pushed naked from the abductors’ car, a Tucson police spokesman said.

According to early information, the kidnapping occurred at Cardinal Park, on South Cardinal Avenue about a half mile south of West Valencia Road, Sgt. Fabian Pacheco said.

The abduction was reported to a sheriff’s deputy because the park is in an unincorporated area, Pacheco said.

Deputy Dawn Barkman, a sheriff’s spokeswoman, said that at about 1 p.m. deputies answered a call from a woman claiming that a man had been stabbed and then kidnapped by four men in a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo or Pontiac Grand Am.

Deputies did not find a victim at the park, but the man found by city police later confirmed he’d been abducted at the park.

The man was found wounded near a service station on Wilmot Road near Interstate 10, Pacheco said.

The man initially was uncooperative and would not tell police his name or what happened.

The man sustained gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening, Barkman said.

No arrests have been made and further details were not immediately available.

Citizen Online Archive, 2006-2009

This archive contains all the stories that appeared on the Tucson Citizen's website from mid-2006 to June 1, 2009.

In 2010, a power surge fried a server that contained all of videos linked to dozens of stories in this archive. Also, a server that contained all of the databases for dozens of stories was accidentally erased, so all of those links are broken as well. However, all of the text and photos that accompanied some stories have been preserved.

For all of the stories that were archived by the Tucson Citizen newspaper's library in a digital archive between 1993 and 2009, go to Morgue Part 2
