Team wins in overtime

NOTE:

The Tucson Amigos capped a successful weekend homestand Saturday night with a 4-3 United States Interregional Soccer League overtime victory against the Montclair Standard Eagles at Rincon/University High School.

The Amigos improved to 3-5. They beat the Valley Golden Eagles, 3-0, Friday night.

Tucson was led Saturday by Rick Soderman, who scored the game-winning goal in sudden death overtime on an assist from Roger Salazar.

Tucson led, 2-0, at halftime on goals by Rodolfo Gaytan. Vince Biachi got the assist on Gaytan’s first goal and Jeff Hodgson was credited with the assist on Gaytan’s second goal.

Early in the second half, Tucson was a man down (10) when Pablo Mastroeni was sent off the field for receiving his second yellow card of the evening. The Falcons scored their first goal a few minutes later on Felipe Rodriguez’s free kick. Gaytan then scored his third goal of the game to give Tucson a 3-1 lead.

But the Falcons scored twice more in regulation, sending the game into overtime.

The Amigos travel to Colorado Springs this weekend to play the division-leading Stampede. Tucson returns home June 2 (vs. Austin).

Our Digital Archive

This blog page archives the entire digital archive of the Tucson Citizen from 1993 to 2009. It was gleaned from a database that was not intended to be displayed as a public web archive. Therefore, some of the text in some stories displays a little oddly. Also, this database did not contain any links to photos, so though the archive contains numerous captions for photos, there are no links to any of those photos.

There are more than 230,000 articles in this archive.

In TucsonCitizen.com Morgue, Part 1, we have preserved the Tucson Citizen newspaper's web archive from 2006 to 2009. To view those stories (all of which are duplicated here) go to Morgue Part 1
