PHOENIX – The Oakland Athletics acquired left-hander Brad Halsey from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for right-hander Juan Cruz yesterday.

Halsey, acquired by the Diamondbacks as part of the trade that sent Randy Johnson to the New York Yankees, was 8-12 with a 4.61 ERA last year for Arizona.

He made 28 appearances, including 26 starts.

Cruz, who spent last season shuttling between Oakland and Triple-A Sacramento of the Pacific Coast League, pitched in 28 games with the A’s last year, all in relief.

“I feel positive,” Cruz said. “We have a good team here, but I feel good about the opportunity. It’s a good chance.”

Cruz, whom the A’s obtained in the trade that sent Tim Hudson to the Atlanta Braves, has not allowed an earned run in 10 1/3 innings this spring.

Cruz also has pitched for the Braves and Chicago Cubs during his four-year career.

Our Digital Archive

This blog page archives the entire digital archive of the Tucson Citizen from 1993 to 2009. It was gleaned from a database that was not intended to be displayed as a public web archive. Therefore, some of the text in some stories displays a little oddly. Also, this database did not contain any links to photos, so though the archive contains numerous captions for photos, there are no links to any of those photos.

There are more than 230,000 articles in this archive.

In TucsonCitizen.com Morgue, Part 1, we have preserved the Tucson Citizen newspaper's web archive from 2006 to 2009. To view those stories (all of which are duplicated here) go to Morgue Part 1
