SEATTLE – Arizona coach Lute Olson hopes junior Jawann McClelland and freshman Chase Budinger step up their rebounding tonight against tall, physical Washington.
McClellan is averaging 4.7 rebounds a game but did not get a board in the last two games.
“Jawann is the guy who is tough enough and physical enough to hold his ground underneath,” Olson said. “He’ll have to rotate down on (UW forward Jon) Brockman. He has to battle.”
Budinger is averaging 5.5 rebounds a game, but Olson said the strong leaper “is still playing too upright near the basket and is getting moved around.”
“Sometimes you think you can get by with your jumping ability,” Olson said, “but it doesn’t do any good if you are being pushed out of bounds or behind the basket area.”
