ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Citizen Staff Writer
SPRING TRAINING

Tuesday: Angels (Nick Adenhart) vs. Diamondbacks (Brandon Webb), 1:05 p.m., Tucson Electric Park

Monday: Diamondbacks 6, Giants 5

Batting recap: Eric Byrnes, Jeff Salazar and Augie Ojeda each had two hits. Conor Jackson drove in three runs and belted his second home run. Jackson, who is batting .333, has 20 hits this spring.

Pitching recap: Micah Owings gave up one run through the first five innings but was tagged for three in the sixth. He yielded a two-run home run and a solo shot.

Left-hander Doug Slaten, making his first spring training appearance, had one scoreless inning, giving up a hit. Brandon Medders allowed one hit in 1 1/2 innings.

Notable: The two-run home run Owings gave up to Giants outfielder Fred Lewis in the sixth cleared the 40-foot wall in center field.

Quotable: “It was not good early on,” Arizona manager Bob Melvin said. “(Owings) walked a few guys and was behind every hitter. He got better as he went on. (But) the last couple of guys got away from him.”

Our Digital Archive

This blog page archives the entire digital archive of the Tucson Citizen from 1993 to 2009. It was gleaned from a database that was not intended to be displayed as a public web archive. Therefore, some of the text in some stories displays a little oddly. Also, this database did not contain any links to photos, so though the archive contains numerous captions for photos, there are no links to any of those photos.

There are more than 230,000 articles in this archive.

In TucsonCitizen.com Morgue, Part 1, we have preserved the Tucson Citizen newspaper's web archive from 2006 to 2009. To view those stories (all of which are duplicated here) go to Morgue Part 1
