CHICAGO WHITE SOX

The Associated Press
SPRING TRAINING

Wednesday: Brewers vs. White Sox, 1:05 p.m., Tucson Electric Park

Tuesday: White Sox 5, Rockies 2

Hitting recap: Alexei Ramirez, Carlos Quentin and Juan Uribe all had two hits for Chicago.

Pitching recap: Mark Buehrle made crisp pitches and his command was pinpoint in leading Chicago. He threw six innings, allowing one run on four hits.

Notable: Before the game, the White Sox optioned infielder Josh Fields to Triple-A Charlotte, preferring to go into the season with the experience of Joe Crede at third base.

Chicago general manager Ken Williams said informing Fields of the decision was extremely difficult. Fields was hitting .268 with no homers this spring.

The White Sox announced that OF Jerry Owens would start the season on the disabled list after a small tear was discovered in his right adductor during an MRI on Tuesday.

Quotable: “I don’t know how many times I repeated the fact I felt that (Fields) was a major leaguer,” Williams said. “He deserves to be playing in the major leagues right now.”

Our Digital Archive

This blog page archives the entire digital archive of the Tucson Citizen from 1993 to 2009. It was gleaned from a database that was not intended to be displayed as a public web archive. Therefore, some of the text in some stories displays a little oddly. Also, this database did not contain any links to photos, so though the archive contains numerous captions for photos, there are no links to any of those photos.

There are more than 230,000 articles in this archive.

In TucsonCitizen.com Morgue, Part 1, we have preserved the Tucson Citizen newspaper's web archive from 2006 to 2009. To view those stories (all of which are duplicated here) go to Morgue Part 1
