Thursday: Sacramento 5, Sidewinders 1
Pitching recap: A.J. Shappi had a tough time in his first Triple-A start. He was roughed up for seven base hits and five runs in 3 1/2 innings. He threw 73 pitches, 43 for strikes.
Brandon Medders was effective following Shappi to the mound. Medders allowed two hits and no runs in 2 1/3 innings.
Hitting recap: The Sidewinders were held to seven hits. Four of them came from the top of the batting order in Emilio Bonifacio and Tim Raines Jr., who had two hits apiece.
Notable: Jamie D’Antona was named the player of the month for the Pacific Coast League for the month of May. He batted .451 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs last month. He also hit safely in 23 of 26 games. He’s hitting .397 for the year. . . .
Robby Hammock, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury, will be available Friday if needed.
Quotable: “We had to score some runs and we didn’t do that,” said Sidewinders manager Bill Plummer. “We had an opportunity to score with our three and four (hitters) and nobody out and couldn’t. That was probably the biggest game breaker. We split (the series) with them but unfortunately the last two nights we didn’t score any runs.”
