IN BRIEF
A surge in visitors at the Sabino Canyon Recreation Area sparked a parking melee, with cars lining the road outside the Northeast Side attraction.
“We’re not sure whether it’s the great weather, people taking ‘staycations’ at home, or the fact that the shuttle is operating all the way to Stop 9 for the first time in two years,” said Larry Pratt, the Coronado National Forest’s urban-developed recreation project manager.
The biggest problem is during peak visiting hours on Saturdays and Sundays. To maintain safety, parking laws will be strictly enforced, says a news release from the national forest.
An overflow parking lot is in development by the nonprofit Friends of Sabino Canyon and should be available later this year, the release said.
