A Thursday drug bust resulted in two arrests and the seizure of 350 pounds of marijuana, the Arizona Department of Public Safety reported Friday.

Santos F. Traslavina, 65, of Rio Rico and Alfredo Madrigal, 35, a Mexican national, were booked into the Pima County Jail on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale and transportation of marijuana, the DPS release said. A third suspect is at large.

Traslavina, who DPS said had been driving the vehicle transporting the pot, was also charged with unlawful flight.

A DPS officer tried to stop a white 1993 Ford pickup for traffic violations near Valencia Road and Old Nogales Highway about 9:30 a.m., but the driver continued on his way, the release said.

The officer followed the truck, which stopped near South Park Avenue and East Drexel Road, where three men got out of the vehicle and ran.

The DPS officer captured Traslavina and a nearby officer from the Pima Community College Police Department apprehended Madrigal.

No description of the third suspect was provided.

DPS estimates the street value of the marijuana at $210,000.

Our Digital Archive

This blog page archives the entire digital archive of the Tucson Citizen from 1993 to 2009. It was gleaned from a database that was not intended to be displayed as a public web archive. Therefore, some of the text in some stories displays a little oddly. Also, this database did not contain any links to photos, so though the archive contains numerous captions for photos, there are no links to any of those photos.

There are more than 230,000 articles in this archive.
