Five southern Arizona boys soccer teams maneuvered their way through the treacherous opening rounds of their respective state playoff tournaments Tuesday night.

Eleven others weren’t so lucky.

Tucson High (Class 5A DIvision I), Rincon/University (5A-II), Sabino (4A-I), Canyon del Oro (4A-I) and Douglas (4A-II) were victorious Tuesday night.

Wednesday night around the state, 13 southern Arizona girls soccer teams will play their opening-round matches, including six hosting home matches – Salpointe Catholic (5A-I), Ironwood Ridge (5A-II), Catalina Foothills (4A-I), Sahuaro (4A-I), Cienega (4A-I) and Douglas (4A-II).

The 1A/2A/3A boys and girls state tournaments begin Friday in Tempe.
