Tohono O’odham Rodeo under way through Sunday

The 71st annual Tohono O’odham Rodeo and Fair, a four-day event highlighting top talent in the famed all-Indian rodeo competitions, is under way through Sunday.

The rodeo is at the Eugene P. Tashquinth Sr. Livestock Complex on state Route 86, about 60 miles west of Tucson.

The event will include top rodeo competitors, powwow competition, traditional dances and games and numerous arts and crafts and food booths.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for senior citizens and free to children 6 and younger.

The O’odham Rodeo parade begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the livestock complex.

Sixth season of roller derby starts here Saturday

Skates will be rumbling as Tucson Roller Derby rolls out its sixth season Saturday.

The action begins with a junior bout featuring the Tucson Derby Brats vs. the Los Angeles Junior Derby Dolls at 4 p.m., followed by a round-robin event featuring all four adult teams at 7 p.m., all at Bladeworld, 1065 W. Grant Road.
