The story: In his first prime-time news conference, President Obama warns that a failure to act swiftly and boldly by passing a stimulus package “could turn a crisis into a catastrophe.”

Your take: The Citizen’s online community doesn’t scare easily. Obama’s claim of impending doom is straight from the “socialist playbook ” say several readers, including Scotty F., who added, “The threat is more terrifying than the thing itself.” Pookie1 called the news conference “Meet the Depress.”

Other representative comments:

• “Democrats complained about eight years of Bush/Cheney scaring the country into going into Iraq. . . . I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same.” – 2194

• “Socialism and bailouts haven’t worked. I hope this one works so we can stop printing the money.” – Just A Fan

• “(Obama) has now resorted to threats and warnings to all Americans that if his socialist agenda isn’t approved, we are in for a disaster. This empty suit . . . has no idea how to run this country.” – KCSilvercloud

Our Digital Archive

This blog page archives the entire digital archive of the Tucson Citizen from 1993 to 2009. It was gleaned from a database that was not intended to be displayed as a public web archive. Therefore, some of the text in some stories displays a little oddly. Also, this database did not contain any links to photos, so though the archive contains numerous captions for photos, there are no links to any of those photos.

There are more than 230,000 articles in this archive.

In TucsonCitizen.com Morgue, Part 1, we have preserved the Tucson Citizen newspaper's web archive from 2006 to 2009. To view those stories (all of which are duplicated here) go to Morgue Part 1
