Wildcats zoned in on defense

It’s all about the defense.

Arizona is riding a five-game winning streak because of its zone. Sure, UA is getting production offensively from the key guys, including Chase Budinger. But it’s the defense that has the Wildcats still alive in their quest for their 25th straight NCAA Tournament – the nation’s longest current streak.

“We’re doing it a little better,” UA interim coach Russ Pennell said about the zone defense.

“People are trying to attack it different. It’s just that chess match we get into. We figure out what our opponent is trying to do to us and we just try to take that away. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

“We’re not changing things in our scheme. It’s not like we’re saying, ‘Let’s try real hard.’ It’s nothing like that.”

The key is that the Wildcats are taking pride in what they’re doing – especially on defense.

Our Digital Archive

This blog page archives the entire digital archive of the Tucson Citizen from 1993 to 2009. It was gleaned from a database that was not intended to be displayed as a public web archive. Therefore, some of the text in some stories displays a little oddly. Also, this database did not contain any links to photos, so though the archive contains numerous captions for photos, there are no links to any of those photos.

There are more than 230,000 articles in this archive.

In TucsonCitizen.com Morgue, Part 1, we have preserved the Tucson Citizen newspaper's web archive from 2006 to 2009. To view those stories (all of which are duplicated here) go to Morgue Part 1
