The story: Hispanics have deserted the Republican Party not because it took a stand against illegal immigration, but because the GOP became so nasty that employers escaped most of the criticism, that the tone went from anti-illegal immigrant to anti-Hispanic, columnist Ruben Navarrette Jr. says.

Your take: The eternal debate (as far as Citizen’s online community is concerned) goes on.

Some representative comments:

• “My ancestry is German, Scottish and Welsh. My ancestors learned to speak English and assimilated into American culture. Why is it so insulting to expect Mexican (legal) immigrants to do the same?” – fulltimedad

• “Undoubtedly the author is lining his portfolio and résumé as stalwart supporter of sanctuary cities and entitlements to Mexican refugees entering this country.” – 3795

• “Immigrants of all races are the ones willing to sacrifice and push hardest for their futures, simply by virtue of what they have had to survive just to get here.” – xochiv

• “Stop racism – hate everyone equally.” – Scotty F.

Our Digital Archive

This blog page archives the entire digital archive of the Tucson Citizen from 1993 to 2009. It was gleaned from a database that was not intended to be displayed as a public web archive. Therefore, some of the text in some stories displays a little oddly. Also, this database did not contain any links to photos, so though the archive contains numerous captions for photos, there are no links to any of those photos.

There are more than 230,000 articles in this archive.

In TucsonCitizen.com Morgue, Part 1, we have preserved the Tucson Citizen newspaper's web archive from 2006 to 2009. To view those stories (all of which are duplicated here) go to Morgue Part 1
