The Arizona women’s basketball team has had trouble against USC.
The Lady Trojans have dominated the series 45-17, but the series is even more slanted when played in Los Angeles, where USC hosts UA at 1 p.m. Sunday. Away from McKale Center, UA has gone 7-23 against USC.
The Wildcats put a scare into USC earlier this season, pushing the Trojans to overtime before losing 77-71 in Tucson.
Arizona, coming off a loss Thursday to UCLA, has an extra day to prepare for USC because normal Pac-10 road trips consist of Thursday/Saturday games. The extra day of preparation should allow sophomore forward Ify Ibekwe to recover completely from a sprained ankle.
Thursday, the ankle didn’t seem to bother her as Ibekwe posted her 12th double-double, with 13 points and 11 rebounds. She pumped in 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the first meeting with USC.
Arizona head coach Niya Butts has stressed that more scoring has to come from the guards. Arizona guards accounted for 20 points against UCLA on Thursday, led by freshman Courtney Clements with 10.
Four USC starters average double figures, led by Camille LaNoir (12.4 points per game) and Briana Gilbreath (11.5).
