It hasn’t been easy for Arizona women’s basketball player Faihza Hill in the past. But her future appears bright.
Hill sat out her freshman season last year due to a knee injury.
This year, the guard has made seven starts for the Wildcats, who host No. 25 Arizona State at 2 p.m. Saturday.
“I’ve come a long way,” Hill said. “I’ve been working hard to get my feet set. It’s starting to pay off. I am able to help out.
“It has been a rocky road. It definitely hasn’t been all ups. I kept pushing and kept fighting and try to be positive.”
Hill made her first collegiate start Nov. 28 at Middle Tennessee. She did not score in 16 minutes on the floor. She made her second start two months later at Arizona State. She scored three points in 15 minutes on the court.
She’s averaging 3.1 points in 13 minutes per game this season.
The 5-foot-5 sophomore has gained more confidence on the court, and is no longer afraid to shoot following a miss.
“I used to be really uptight,” she said. “I was hesitant if I did something wrong I would come out.”
Hill has had two games where she has scored 11 points.
“She does some really good things for us,” Arizona coach Niya Butts said.
