UA softsball team picks up 2 more wins

The University of Arizona softball team completed a dominant weekend with two more wins Sunday.

UA (13-2) went 6-0 at the Wildcat Invitational, outscoring its opponents 53-5.

Arizona has won 12 in a row after beating North Dakota State 12-0 and Utah 6-1 Sunday.

Sarah Akamine (7-0) picked up the win over NDSU, tossing four scoreless innings. Stacie Chambers went 3 for 3 with two homers – giving her seven on the year – and driving in six runs.

Brittany Lastrapes, Lauren Schutzler and Lini Koria also homered for the Wildcats in the opener.

Against Utah, Lindsey Sisk (6-2) shut out the Utes over six innings, striking out four.

Jenae Leles hit a two-run homer for UA, while Koria also drove in two runs.

UA next visits Texas A&M for a three-game set, starting at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

UA women’s golf

Arizona is in 12th place after the opening round of the Wildcat Invitational in Puerto Penasco, Mexico.

UCLA is in first, eight strokes ahead of second-place Arizona State.

The second round was set to start at 8 a.m. Monday.

UA women’s tennis

The Wildcats fell 5-2 to host San Diego on Saturday and will next be in action at Oregon at 1 p.m. Friday.

Natasha Marks at No. 2 and Sarah Landsman at No. 4 picked up singles wins for UA.

UA men’s tennis

The Wildcats (8-1) won their sixth straight match by beating San Diego 5-2 at home Saturday.

Arizona visits Fresno State at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Pima sports

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: The No. 4-ranked Aztecs improved to 23-4 with a 72-64 win at Yavapai on Saturday.

Abyee Maracigan (Flowing Wells High) had 18 points for the Aztecs, who host South Mountain at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: The Aztecs lost at Yavapai 91-90 in overtime Saturday to fall to 9-19.

Terrence Hill Rincon/University) had 27 points for Pima, which hosts South Mountain at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

SOFTBALL: Pima swept host Gateway 8-0 and 19-1 Saturday in Phoenix to improve to 15-3.

The Aztecs host Central Arizona for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

BASEBALL: Pima (8-4) split a doubleheader at South Mountain on Saturday, losing 5-4 and winning 4-3. The Aztecs visit No. 4-ranked Central Arizona College for a doubleheader at noon Tuesday.
