Lady Cat wins honor

University of Arizona junior catcher Stacie Chambers was named the Pac-10 player of the week Tuesday.

Chambers hit .706 while driving in 17 runs as UA went 6-0 last week. She hit four homers and a double.

Arizona visits Texas A&M at 3:30 p.m. Friday for the start of a three-game series.

Pima sports

The Pima Community College women’s basketball team beat South Mountain 60-51 Tuesday to improve to 24-4.

The No. 4-ranked Aztecs conclude the regular season with a 5:30 p.m. game Friday at No. 5 Mesa.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Pima improved to 10-19 with a 76-51 win over South Mountain on Tuesday.

WOMEN’S TENNIS: Pima (2-1) beat visiting Paradise Valley 7-2. Kelly Ponzio won 6-2, 7-5 for Pima at No. 1 singles.

BASEBALL: The Aztecs (8-6) were swept in a doubleheader at No. 4 Central Arizona, losing 2-1 and 2-0.

SOFTBALL: The Aztecs (16-4) split a doubleheader with Central Arizona, winning 3-2 and losing 7-3.
