Cats panned, praised for effort in Northwest

• Why can’t we finish games? I’m sick of always leading at half and letting it go in the second half. Looks like McKale has to will the team to victory against Cal and Stanford for UA to go to the tourney. JUST A FAN

• I am not blaming this loss on the refs, but there were some pretty bad calls and no calls in this game, all favoring UW. What happened to Zane Johnson shooting 3s? Looks like he has lost his confidence or something. TRADERJPHX

• Why do Cat Fans always cry about the refs only when they lose? Don’t ever give the opponent any credit. ZAPKICKBALL

• The Cats were gamers Saturday. The end result was not what we wanted, but, you know what? These guys are hustling and playing defense like their lives depended on it. That’s the way to play defense. For a team that doesn’t have much depth, these guys must have gotten worn out with the frenetic pace. I thought Jordan Hill outplayed Jon Brockman, and it’s too bad Chase Budinger fouled out. LA DAN

• Honestly, Washington State should take the Cats’ place as the fifth team in the Pac-10. UA has no business going to the NCAA Tournament. Being up 10-plus points twice, and then giving games away is a real reality check for (interim coach) Russ Pennell. BAY CAT NATE

• Arizona needs and will get the sweep this weekend. That will all but lock up an NCAA bid. On a neutral court, this team will be a tough out. This team was dreadful at the beginning of year on the road. You can see they are getting better. Both UW and ASU where all you can ask for is a chance in the final couple of minutes. Wazzu is playing very good ball. Assuming Wise and Hill are healthy, Arizona should be fine. For what it’s worth, ESPN’s Hubert Davis still views Arizona as the best team in the Pac 10 despite the recent losses. 4274

• I’m disappointed in the coaching on Saturday. Hill is playing too many minutes and foul trouble and fatigue both contributed to his injury. Why not let Jacobson play a few minutes? He was taken out right after he scored. Brockman had several breathers and was strong at the end. CYNIC

• The season is over. It’s time to think of who is gonna coach UA: Tom Izzo, Mark Few, Lon Kruger, Jamie Dixon, Rick Pitino, Scott Drew. I personally think Few would be the best pick. SADZONACAT

• I don’t see Few moving. I believe he has Rick Majerus disease (no, not gluttony). He wants to stay in a place where national expectations are not high. At Gonzaga (and Utah and St. Louis), if you win, then great. If you lose, that’s OK, because you are viewed as a midmajor. NJ CATS

• Mark Turgeon of Texas A&M is UA’s next coach. DWEVANS
