WEEK IN REVIEW

1Love and politics: You would think that being the daughter of a former presidential candidate would land you a few dates. But Meghan McCain, 24, says that having Arizona Sen. John McCain for a dad has made it more difficult for her to establish relations, foreign and domestic, with guys. The professional blogger says that Election 2008 “killed my personal life.”

2Dog kills infant: A 2-week-old baby dies in Mesa after apparently being attacked by the family’s chow. The mother had placed the baby in a low bassinet or crib. Police found the child with obvious bite wounds to the head. The chow has been quarantined.

3Payne trial: Reina Irene Gonzales says she could have helped Tyler and Ariana Payne before they died but didn’t. Tyler, age 4, and Ariana, 3, starved to death in 2006. Their father, Christopher Mathew Payne, is charged with first-degree murder, child abuse and concealing the children’s bodies. Gonzales, Payne’s ex-girlfriend, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a 22-year sentence in exchange for testifying against Payne.

4Home invaders: Three men arrested in a violent North Side home invasion were well equipped and appeared to have experience or at least training in the crime, a Tucson police spokesman says.

5Sherrif Joe: Maricopa County’s Joe Arpaio has turned law enforcement into an embarrassing, offensive media circus in which he serves as ringmaster. Or so the Citizen says in an editorial. Our readers beg to differ.

Our Digital Archive

This blog page archives the entire digital archive of the Tucson Citizen from 1993 to 2009. It was gleaned from a database that was not intended to be displayed as a public web archive. Therefore, some of the text in some stories displays a little oddly. Also, this database did not contain any links to photos, so though the archive contains numerous captions for photos, there are no links to any of those photos.

There are more than 230,000 articles in this archive.

In TucsonCitizen.com Morgue, Part 1, we have preserved the Tucson Citizen newspaper's web archive from 2006 to 2009. To view those stories (all of which are duplicated here) go to Morgue Part 1
