A Tucson man walking along a dark road against traffic was hit and killed by a car in Sahuarita on Sunday night, a Sahuarita police spokesman said.

The man was Eddie Contreras, 42, of Tucson, said Officer Sam Almodova. The name of the driver who hit him is being withheld as an investigation continues, said Sgt. Matt McGlone, another Sahuarita police spokesman. Almodova said the driver was a 42-year-old Tucson woman.

Contreras was walking south on South Nogales Highway near Pima Mine Road on a narrow shoulder and had stepped onto the roadway when he was hit about 11:25 p.m. by a northbound car, McGlone said.

Contreras died at the scene, McGlone said.

The driver called 911 to report the accident, McGlone said.

No citations have been issued pending completion of the investigation, McGlone said Monday. Almodova said he expected the woman would not be cited.

Our Digital Archive

This blog page archives the entire digital archive of the Tucson Citizen from 1993 to 2009. It was gleaned from a database that was not intended to be displayed as a public web archive. Therefore, some of the text in some stories displays a little oddly. Also, this database did not contain any links to photos, so though the archive contains numerous captions for photos, there are no links to any of those photos.

There are more than 230,000 articles in this archive.

In TucsonCitizen.com Morgue, Part 1, we have preserved the Tucson Citizen newspaper's web archive from 2006 to 2009. To view those stories (all of which are duplicated here) go to Morgue Part 1
