William Nelson, president of GLHN Architects & Engineers Inc., was named 2008 Engineer of the Year by the Southern Arizona branch of the Arizona Society of Professional Engineers. Nelson has been with GLHN since 1970, focusing his professional efforts primarily on projects for the Department of Veterans Affairs and higher education institutions. He has led projects at more than 100 VA Medical Centers nationwide and at more than two dozen college and university campuses.

Arizona Rep. Olivia Cajero Bedford, D-Tucson, was honored by University Medical Center social workers with the UMC Department of Social Work Circle of Excellence Award as part of National Professional Social Work Month. Bedford has advocated for programs such as graduate medical education, raised awareness of and fought for vaccines for children, brought attention to high-risk, prenatal care and fought against cuts to AHCCCS.
