A man under investigation for child molestation died at a hospital early Monday after police say he pulled a gun on officers and they shot him.
Events leading to the shooting began about 2:45 p.m. Sunday and involved Stanley Laverne Barr, 48, said Sgt. Fabian Pacheco, a Tucson police spokesman.
The teen’s mother reported a molestation and Barr became a suspect in the case.
Officers and detectives began an investigation that lead them to get a search warrant shortly before 8 p.m. for Barr’s home in the 6300 block of East Calle Castor, near east 22nd Street and south Wilmot Road, Pacheco said.
Officers went to the home and saw Barr coming to the door. He pulled a pistol from his pocket, and the two officers told him to drop it. Barr chambered a cartridge and pointed it at officers, both of whom fired. Barr died at University Medical Center.
The officers who fired at Barr were not immediately named and have been put on paid leave, as is standard procedure.
