Mari Contreras pitched a complete-game no-hitter and smacked a home run, leading the Sunnyside High School softball team to an 8-0 win over Casa Grande on Friday.

Canyon del Oro’s softball team slipped from No. 2 to No. 10 in this week’s USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association national Top 25 after losing last week to Cienega and Chandler Basha.
CDO (22-2) is still the highest-ranked Arizona team in the poll. In addition to reigning Gatorade Player of the Year Kenzie Fowler dominating as a pitcher, the Dorados offense is having a banner year, with five hitters boasting averages above .400.
Tuesday, sophomore Taylor Watkins set a school record with three triples in a game and tied a school mark with five hits against Sabino.
UA men’s tennis
No. 6 USC shut out visiting No. 18 Arizona 7-0 on Friday, dropping the Wildcats to 17-4 overall and 2-3 in Pac-10 play. UA visits No. 9 UCLA at 1 p.m. Saturday.
UA women’s tennis
The Wildcats fell to 10-8 overall and 1-5 in Pac-10 play with a 5-2 loss to visiting USC on Friday.
The No. 9-ranked Trojans won five of six singles matches.
UA’s Sarah Landsman was the only Wildcat to win in singles, beating USC’s Gabriela Niculesco 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 at No. 3.
UA hosts No. 11 UCLA at noon Saturday.
UA men’s golf
The Wildcats are 23 strokes behind first-place Arizona State after two rounds of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe.
UA has a 14-over 582 total. Phil Bagdade and Tarquin MacManus lead Wildcat individuals, both with 1-over 143.
The event concludes Saturday.
