Softball team earns No. 2 seed in Region 1 tourney

• The Pima Community College softball team clinched a spot in the Region I tournament by beating Arizona Western twice Tuesday.

The Aztecs (49-15) won 7-5 and 1-0. Pima will be the No. 2 seed in the three-team tournament, which begins May 1.

Jordan Trujillo (Sierra Vista Buena) earned the win in the opener Tuesday, while Chelsea Evanoff (Sabino) won the second game to improve to 20-3.

• The Aztecs baseball team fell to 30-20-1 after being swept in a doubleheader at Cochise College on Tuesday.

The Aztecs conclude their regular season with a doubleheader against visiting Central Arizona on Saturday.

• The Pima women’s golf team closed out its season by winning a two-day tournament at the Tatum Ranch Golf Course in Cave Creek.

Brianne Anderson (Flowing Wells) was second overall while Nicole Gentry (Mountain View) was fourth.
