Kevin Rath found a way to slow down the University of Arizona baseball team’s offense.

Rath allowed one earned run in five innings to give host Cal State Fullerton a 5-2 win over the Wildcats on Tuesday night in a nonconference game.

UA (22-22) was coming off a three-game sweep over California in which it scored 33 runs.

No. 6 Fullerton improved to 33-12 with the win, the Titans’ 10th in their past 11 games.

Joe Allison (3-1) took the loss for UA. He yielded three runs on five hits in four innings.

No. 1 starter Preston Guilmet pitched an inning in relief for UA, allowing two runs on two hits.

Nick Ramirez picked up his third save by pitching a scoreless ninth for Fullerton.

Dillon Baird and Brad Glenn both had two hits for UA. Glenn and Steve Selsky had the team’s RBIs.

Josh Fellhauer homered and doubled for Fullerton. His double in the third tied the game at 2, while his two-run homer in the fifth wrapped up the scoring.

The teams meet again at 6 p.m. Wednesday. UA will then return home for a three-game set against Loyola Marymount, starting at 7 p.m. Friday.

Our Digital Archive

This blog page archives the entire digital archive of the Tucson Citizen from 1993 to 2009. It was gleaned from a database that was not intended to be displayed as a public web archive. Therefore, some of the text in some stories displays a little oddly. Also, this database did not contain any links to photos, so though the archive contains numerous captions for photos, there are no links to any of those photos.

There are more than 230,000 articles in this archive.

In TucsonCitizen.com Morgue, Part 1, we have preserved the Tucson Citizen newspaper's web archive from 2006 to 2009. To view those stories (all of which are duplicated here) go to Morgue Part 1
