Largest construction contest in Arizona will help students nail down career skills Feb. 3 and 4

More than 100 Pima County JTED construction students, from nine local high schools will gather on Feb. 3 and 4 at Catalina Magnet High School (3645 E. Pima Road) to compete in the Region 6 SkillsUSA competition. According to Jack Draper, SkillsUSA Construction Coordinator, this will be the largest student construction event in Arizona.

JTED construction teachers have teamed up with 14 construction-related businesses in Southern Arizona to gauge the students’ skills in masonry, plumbing, electrical wiring and three levels of carpentry. The contest will begin at 8 a.m. both days, ending at 4 p.m. on Friday, and at noon on Saturday.

SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization, which brings students, teachers and industry experts together to ensure that our nation has a skilled workforce.
