Joey Saldana Racing at the KRONIK Energy Western World Championships Presented by Old Tucson Studios

Tucson, Arizona (November 9th, 2009) -After a stellar year and more than 20 victories, Joey Saldana will head west to take part in the 42nd Running of The KRONIK Energy Western World Championships Presented by Old Tucson Studios. After adding himself to the record books at the World Finals, Saldana will again look to make history by adding his name to the prestigious list of former WWC winners.

Saldana will pilot Herald Main’s Ham Construction-ART Enterprises-Ostrich powered Maxim in his quest to capture the illustrious title and the $15k. “The Brownsburg Bullet” has racked up more than 160 wins through out his career and ranks in the top 10 of all time World of Outlaws feature winners. One of only five drivers to win more than 20 WoO features in a single season, Saldana has been a dominate force in the sprint car world for some time and his at the top of his game coming into the American Sprint Car Series season finale.

“We are thrilled to have Joey at this event” commented USA Raceway. “He is a great racer and definitely adds to an already stout field! We have some of the best racers in the country coming to Tucson and this will be a show like no other.”

Saldana comes into the middle of a very heated battle for the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Series Championship. Shane Stewart and Jason Johnson will go head to head with only 24 points separating the two drivers as the ASCS title will be decided when the checkered flag drops November 21st. Charles Davis and Rick Ziehl head up the Discount Tire Canyon Region and Southwest Region respectively. Davis leads RJ Johnson in the non wing region while Ziehl holds a narrow margin over Ben Gregg in Southwest Region points. All three Championships will be decided on the final night of the Kronik Energy Western World and the champions will be honored at the Brodix ASCS Banquet November 22nd at Old Tucson Studios.

More than one hundred sprint cars will be expected to take part in what will be one of the biggest sprint car events in the country as drivers from all walks will look to add their name to prestigious list of winners.

Both the winged and wingless forces will tackle USA Raceway’s 3/8-mile clay oval for three nights on November 19th, 20th and 21st, with more than $100,000 in “A” Feature money alone distributed over the course of the blockbuster event. A $15,000 share awaits the winner of the Lucas Oil ASCS season-ender on November 21st, with the Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region conqueror on November 21 pocketing $5,000.

Race Notes:

Sunday: Just prior to the start of the 50-lap feature event, promoter Royal Jones announced that the event would pay $15,000 to win not the advertised $10,000 to win! This added some additional pressure to the 24 drivers that had locked themselves into the feature event.

Pole sitter Jeremy Payne jumped to the race lead at the drop of the green flag with team mate Terry Phillips in tow. Third starting Johnny Scott moved quickly to second with amazing racing action taking place throughout the field. Payne lead the first sixteen laps before exchanging slide job after slide job with Scott lap after lap during the mid-point of the event. Scott stole the lead on lap 18 and looked to drive off, but Payne hung right there and snatched the lead back on lap 28. Scott and Payne battled side by side for the next two laps until the lone caution flew for a stalling Jack Sullivan. On the restart, Scott pulled away and lead the remaining twenty laps without much pressure as Payne, Phillips, Randy Timms and Rodney Sanders were in a great battle just behind the leader. Scott raced uncontested the final circuits to the largest payday of his career and to his second Fall Nationals title. Payne ran second with Sanders third. Timms nipped Phillips at the line for fourth in front of the packed house.

J HerreraWestern World Championships 2009 Schrader and Lasoski Headed to USA Raceway
Tucson, Arizona (October 31st, 2009) – With November just around the corner and two of the largest racing events of 2009 nearing, two racing icons confirm plans to compete at Tucson’s USA Raceway. Both drivers will vie for the top prize of $15,000 and the right to add their names to the prestigious list of past winners.

Kenny Schrader, 25 year NASCAR legend, stands on all sides of the racing fence making not only a lucrative career in the sport but a lifestyle that has been mimicked by some of the modern day greats. Schrader, in his words, only knows one thing and he knows it very well from team owner, track promoter to legendary race car driver.

His career started as a young boy racing go-carts and reached the pinnacle most racers can only dream of. Although he made it to the top, he has never lost sight of his roots as he will make the haul to Tucson’s USA Raceway to take part in the $15k to win 5th Annual Barnett Harley Davidson Wes Hurst Memorial.

Schrader, driving his own Federated Auto Parts/Phoenix Parker Store/O’Rielly Chevrolet entry, will join a long list of the best Modified drivers in the country all looking to take home the richest modified payday of 2009.

“We are delighted to come to USA Raceway and be a part of this race,” commented Schrader. “I would really like to thank Steve Stroud of the Phoenix Parker Store and Joe Morales of O’Rielly Chevrolet for stepping up and helping us get to Tucson. It will be a pleasure to have these guys on board for the Wes Hurst Memorial.”

The Wes Hurst Memorial, which takes place on the weekend following Thanksgiving, enters its 5th year and is anticipated to be the largest Modified event of 2009. The best of the best will tackle USA Raceway’s 3/8-mile clay oval for three days on November 27, 28 and 29, with nearly $100,000 in prize money to be distributed over the course of the blockbuster event. An unprecedented $15,000 top prize awaits the eventual winner as that name will be added to past champions that include Christy Georges, Richie Tosh, Tommy Weider and 2008 winner Terry Phillips.

Danny “The Dude” Lasoski will join Schrader in the trip to Tucson, however, he will be coming a week early. Lasoski will be looking to grab victory hardware and the $15,000 winners check as he will take part in the 42nd Annual KRONIK Energy Western World Championships presented by Old Tucson Studio’s.

Lasoski, 1991 Western World Champion, has earned a long and established resume that ranks him as one of the top sprint car drivers ever. Winning 4 Knoxville National Titles, 8 Knoxville Raceway Championships, Championships in the NST and WoO and all time Knoxville feature victory leader, Lasoski will be looking to capture his second Western World title to add to his long list of accomplishments.

The “Dude” will make his way to Tucson and attempt to pilot his Creason Pipeline Construction-Hoosier Tire JEI-Kisler into USA Raceway’s victory lane.

TUCSON, Ariz. (October 24, 2009) – Albuquerque’s Johnny Herrera kept a streak alive by racing to victory lane in Saturday night’s 25-lap American Sprint Car Series Southwest Region main event at USA Raceway.

Herrera raced forward from the third row inside to take the checkered flag in front of Calvin Landis, with Rick Ziehl climbing from 13th to claim the show position. The defending series champion, Ziehl not only took over the 2009 ASCS Southwest points lead but also bagged the Discount Tire Co. ASCS Regional Wing/Non-Wing Challenge title with the third place run.

Ronnie Clark crossed the stripe fourth, with J.T. Imperial rounding out the top five. R.J. Johnson raced from nine rows deep to finish sixth in his winged Sprint Car debut, with Joshua Williams, pole starter Kaylene Verville, 16th-starter Joshua Hodges and Cody Cambensy completing the top ten.

Duane Jones and Jason Pugliese captured Hornet Championships in RWD action and FWD action respectively. Both drivers sealed their fate in Saturday’s feature events at USA Raceway by finishing in the top 3.

Both drivers entered Saturday’s finale in very tight point battles that had to be decided in the last Hornet race of the year. Pugliese and Jones showed why they are champions as they battled to the front and captured the 2009 Hornet Championship.

Ricky McGuier ended the inaugural season of USA X-Mod action on a high note by capturing his first victory of 2009. McGuire took the 20-lap feature just ahead of Nolan Morrow and Jerry Warner.

Larry Leech took top honors in the Factory Stock feature likely securing him a top 5 in the champion standings.
