Klan types ride again … only on electron beams
by Hugh Holub on Jul. 18, 2010, under border issues, politicsThe Three Sonorans got what sure looks like a death threat on his blog.
David and I are obviously two of the outspoken opponents of SB 1070 and we resist all the racist undercurrents being used to make undocumented aliens and especially Mexicans some kind of demons responsible for all the ills of society.
Reading the comments being posted on our blogs it becomes painfully obvious that there is a group of people who are extremely intolerant of being disagreed with, and demand we be fired or worse. They have their point of view, but they do not want opposing points of view published. They would silence their opposition.
Is that the American way?
Funny that the folks who want to silence those who they disagree with want to use totalitarian tactics to have their way. And they call themselves patriots.
Us bloggers have the ability to delete comments posted.
I rarely exercise that privilege because one of the points of a good blog is to spark intelligent debate.
I like it that my blog becomes a platform for others to point out why they think I’m wrong. Thus one can not only read my opinions, they can also read the counter opinions. I think that enhances the debate about issues like SB 1070.
Some of the threads on my blog posts taken together are wonderful debates, full of good information, thoughtful counter comments, and make a good read.
Some of the commentors really offer unique and helpful perspectives on the issues. And they document their positions with good links.
When they start debating with each other over their comments, it doesn’t get any better than that. This is the best of electronic journalism.
Then there’s another set of people who just flame the writer and offer some really astounding trash comments, including death threats.
Could delete those comments. However I feel like letting these folks expose their hatred and bigotry shows the rest of the world who is behind SB 1070 and what their real agenda is. Let them hang themselves with their own words.
Have you wondered where the ugly side of America’s racism such as the Ku Klux Klan came from? It came from folks wrapped up in fear and hatred who decided the only solution was to burn people out of their homes and lynch them. Other folks let them get away with this intimidation.
One would think that in the 21st century United States of America the Klan type mentality had finally died.
SB 1070 obviously stirred up a segment of our population itching to cut eye holes in their sheets and ride again. Only now they ride on electronic beams spewing their hate and intimidation on the web.
Instead of wearing sheets, they hide behind their anonymous avatars.

‘SB 1070 obviously stirred up a segment of our population itching to cut eye holes in their sheets and ride again.’
Attempts to vilify the legitimate commentators who may differ from your misguided opinion by mixing them up with the radical few gives little or no credibility to your own arguments.
But you do help solidify opinion, against you.

And yet you completely ignore what he said first: “I like it that my blog becomes a platform for others to point out why they think I’m wrong. Thus one can not only read my opinions, they can also read the counter opinions. I think that enhances the debate about issues like SB 1070.”

The Klan never went away, especially in a State where the former governor referred to Black people as ‘pick-a-ninies’, where executions were ordered by southern county sheriffs of Black parishioners both 30 years ago. Where both major newspapers were owned by the same corporation.
The citizens, as well as the police and legislators, here, let hate sneak back in, a step at a time. Go to the Anti-Defamation League website, click on the Police Resource page and search for Minute Men. You won’t get all the info but you will get the history of the movement and their connection to the American Nazi Party, the KKK and various Aryan groups, you will get their real dogma, a list of their founders and a short trail of their financial backers, their plan to infiltrate the small town city councils and sheriff departments, to buy up small town newspapers and use them to advance their agenda by use of omission and/or misdirection and distraction. Follow the trail and you will find the connection to various congress people and senators, attorney generals, police departments ad nauseam. The parallels here to the rise of the Nazi party in the ‘30′s is astounding.
The Klan parades around the streets in many states. The last one I saw was in Midland, Texas in 2006. It is foolish to believe that this ever went away. If anything, it grew, having spawned a plethora of various factions of Aryan this and white supremist that.
The Klan lost traction with the public spewing hate against the Black population but have been welcomed back into the hearts of ‘patriotic’ Americans vilifying the Hispanic population.
I think, mostly, those who claim to be patriots are vicious haters using code words to hide their financial greed and lust for power. It has always been so and these groups are the real and true enemy of any democratic republic.
As to SB 1070, my advice is to do what Ronald Reagan did (with a few changes) give everyone amnesty BUT, create an adequate venue for allowing new immigrants into America since white people here seem too lazy to build their own houses or grow their own food.

I believe that this journalist is just pulling the strings of all concerned by comparing people that are for SB1070 to KKK. That is certainly not the case when we voted for this proposition. What Tucson and Americans want, are people who have come to be in our country – legally. People who will be proud to live here and follow the laws, just like the rest of the “good” Americans. What we DONT want, are the illegals, no matter what nationalization, living here, taking jobs from Americans, not following the laws like the Americans that live here. This type of journalism is just to spark an already volatile situation. Shame on you!

Amen and Amen. People who do not live in Arizona and for that matter all the border states have a right as American citizens to fight against their rights being taken away from them and given to illegals. Unless you live here you should just leave it alone. I have lived a long time and have watched illegals (of different races) ruin our state and make us pay the price for them being here. It would be a little different if the worked and supported their families but most do not work they live on a welfare diet and take what we as American work hard to accomplish. All of you that are against this law either do not live with the problems or are simply deaf and blind to the facts. As far as the kkk well that has nothing to do with us. They are not what we want and that is more the south east way of doing things. We are tired of paying taxes so the illegals get a free ride and take over our state and our lives. If you are so sure we are wrong with wanting action against these illegals then open your states and invite them there. you can support them, but please don’t send them back when you are bankrupt.

The problem is that when you make a statement like: ” What Tucson and Americans want, are people who have come to be in our country – legally.” You demonstrate an obvious ignorance of the process for coming to the US legally. Until you educate yourself and recognize that it isn’t simple about pulling a number and waiting in line, your over simplified understanding of immigration to the US will never be taken seriously. You may be right to say that a majority of people agree with you, but that doesn’t mean they are any more educated about it than you are. And please, stop speaking for the American people and Tucsonans. I can thinking and speak for myself.

These Neo-Nazi’s came out not only because of SB1070 but mostly because of our President. If their twisted philosphy is for all white then there is their motivation. Now, how can we deport them? This is our opportunity now that they have exposed themselves. These unpatriotic non-citizens are following the command of their Generals: Hannity, Beck, Palin, Brewer, Bachman, Arpollo, Pearce, Horne, etc. In Arizona their main leaders are Arpollo, Brewer, Pearce and Horne they stirred these like minded unpatriotic non-citizens to act. In Arizona a law passed in which weapons can be carried into bars and restuarants, well this law benefits these morons (Klan). Brewer, Pearce and Arpollo new this we are not stupid. The Pinal County Sheriff I am sure welcomes the Klan even though he will speak against them. It is all part of the plan, “you are one of us,” does this comment send a message. These cowards speak in code and they think that we patriotic Americans are to stupid to figure them out. If there should be any cleansing of America we need to rid ourselves of this group of people. If America declares war on these idiots I will proudly volunteer.

If you believe that then you have your head in the sand or maybe you have no common loyalty to America. everything you have said is a down right lie!

Debra,
What rights exactly do you believe are taken away and handed to illegals? I hear this alot and no one ever specifiys. Frankly it sounds like repeated propaganda.
Generalization of \most\ illegals not working comes from first hand knowledge ? Half of the complaints are that they are taking american jobs. The other half insist they dont work at all..i wish everyone would at least get their complaints straight.
As to the welfare diet you do realize governemnt programs require paperwork that most illegals do not have or they wouldnt be illegal?

So if we disagree with you we are KKK and Neo-Nazis? Not Conservatives who think we are being invaded.

Did you read the entire article? Or do you believe death threats and trash-talk comments help encourage insightful debates?
The author says he welcomes debates, different perspectives, POV, etc, but death threats, and trash-talking does nothing to further the dialog other than to show the true colors of the posters.

Hugh, do you know which states the KKK still exists in? I think one is Texas.

According to the Anti-defamation League:
The Ku Klux Klan is a racist, anti-Semitic movement with a commitment to extreme violence to achieve its goals of racial segregation and white supremacy. Of all the types of right-wing hate groups that exist in the United States, the Klan remains the one with the greatest number of national and local organizations around the country.
More than 40 different Klan groups exist, many having multiple chapters, or “klaverns,” including a few that boast a presence in a large number of states. There are over a hundred different Klan chapters around the country, with a combined strength of members and associates that may total around 5,000.
………….
A point is Klan type activity is not limited to card-carrying members of the KKK.
Hiding behind avatars and anonymous email addresses making death threats is just a new version of wearing a sheet and trying to terroprize folks.
