US Senator Charles Grassley has claimed that the guns used in the shooting death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry may have come from a Phoenix gun shop and that the Bureau of Alcohol Firearms Tobacco and Explosives may have been aware of the sale.

Here is Senator Grassley’s January 27, 2011 letter to Kenneth Melson, BAFTE Acting Director:

Note: There is a whole other story about getting copies of these letters. I found them via the Examiner which found them at  Sipsey Street Irregulars.

There have been rumors for a while that something was fishy about Project Gunwalker and that BATFE was covering up their role.

David Codrea of the Examine also reports that the Phoenix ATF reportedly retaliating against ‘Project Gunwalker’ whistleblower

AP reportedly has copy of Grassley letter to ATF

One of the ATF sources involved with “Project Gunwalker” (allegations by insiders from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that bureau management allowed guns to be transported across the border into Mexico and kept the authorities there in the dark) indicates management pressure is now being brought to bear against at least one suspected whistleblower.

I am told that an agent in Phoenix has gone on record that he is cooperating with the Judiciary Committee, that the ATF office there is retaliating, and that he needs help. I am told the best way to provide that help is for the media to call Grassley’s office and then run with what they are told.

        Hugh,

I wonder where all the usual suspects are that post in the firearms/gun control related articles?

        The silence is deafening….

Indeed. This reminds me of a friend who was a Marine in Viet Nam who really got peeved when the first M-16s their unit got were off the dead bodies of North Vietnamese regulars…the US guns having been sold to the enemy in the Phillipines.
