Steve Kerr has announcing duties for Arizona games

by on Nov. 30, 2010, under Sports

A little bonus for Arizona basketball fans this weekend: Wildcat great Steve Kerr will be helping call Sunday’s game against Oklahoma for the national telecast on Fox Sports Net.

Kerr will be working with play-by-play man Steve Physioc. The game begins at 2 p.m. at McKale Center.

Kerr, who stepped down as the general manager of the Phoenix Suns after last season, will work two other games for FSN: UCLA at USC on Jan. 9, and Arizona State at Arizona on Jan. 15.

In other Kerr-related news …

Nice story in the San Diego Union Tribune on Kerr and his son, Nick, who is a senior at Torrey Pines High School. Nick — naturally, an excellent shooter, will be attending the University of San Diego.

“I want to look like that,” Nick said of his dad’s form. “His shot was incredible. That’s what I’m trying to get to. He shot 56 percent as a senior in college. That’s just incredible.”

You can also see Steve in Arizona’s intro video that is played at McKale Center, although this is the original version, not the version that was updated after the first game to splice in Derrick Williams’ over-the-head one-handed dunk.

Thanks Anthony.  Good stuff.  Were the Cats ever in on Nick?  It just seems odd that this young man won’t be donning a UA b-ball uni.  Goodness knows there isn’t exactly an over-abundance of sure-shots hanging around McKale these days…But I could be wrong I suppose.

Thrilled as all get up that Steven Douglas Kerr will be doing these Cat games on TV this season.  And glad to see that it’ll be Kerr and Physioc and not one of those other guys.  Man, is the Oklahoma game Sunday – this Sunday - already?  With Capel being a Dookie and K disciple, and with Sooner b-ball having our number over the years like they do, I’m looking forward to it.  And it’s at home…Uh-huh.  C’mon McKale!

Arizona didn’t recruit Nick. It’s always nice to have a ‘legacy” but I have to trust Sean Miller on this one. Looks like he’s doing just fine.

The story from the Union-Tribune said Nick was also being recruited by Princeton, Penn, Portland, Air Force and SMU.

That’s an interesting lineup of schools.  Are you sure you didn’t just accidentally copy and paste that other school’s schedule instead?  Considering Dad wasn’t recruited much, and knowing Kerr the younger is in the top 3 nationally in 3-ball accuracy, should we expect the same kind of career?  And I suppose No. 25 for the Toreros is now taken as well.  Any 12-PACers taking on San Diego U in the near future?  On TV?

BTW, any other Cat alums, other than Eric Cooper of course, have offspring who can ball?  Did I hear that Pete Williams and/or Eddie Smith have a kid coming up the ranks?  Or was it Judson Donald “Jud” Buechler?  Man, just saying these guys’ names takes me back aways.
