Arizona-Stanford game postponed because of Giffords shooting

The Arizona-Stanford men’s basketball game, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, has been postponed until Sunday because of the shooting in northwest Tucson that critically injured U.S. Congresswomen Gabrielle Giffords and others.

The game will be played at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at McKale Center.

“The University feels the game should be delayed with deep respect to the victims and families impacted by this tragedy,” Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne said in a statement released by the university.

Byrne noted that UA’s normal security forces for a game have heavy involvement with the shooting incident which took place in northwest Tucson. …

Television plans have not been determined. The game, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, was to be broadcast on KWBA-58 in Tucson and FS Arizona elsewhere in the state.
