UPDATING: Arizona football recruiting: Wildcats beat ASU, Miami on WR

Update, 4:30 p.m: Stoops had his press conference. Here is a story from that — Carey’s signing shows rare loyalty within state — and check back at TucsonCitizen.com later for more from me and from Brad Allis, who was at Ka’Deem Carey’s press conference today.

Arizona isn’t believed to be waiting on anyone else. The Cats announced 17 signings today to go with the five mid-year transfers.

Update: 12:57 p.m.: Arizona announces spring ball starts March 16. (As for Signing Day, the Wildcats still waiting for one letter.)

Update: 12:46 p.m.: Overall, a good National Signing Day for the Arizona Wildcats.

RB Ka’Deem Carey and WR Patrick Onwuasor, two players who waited until today to announce their choice for Arizona, were each selected for the Tacoma News Tribune’s Western 100 list.

It doesn’t appears that any of UA’s committed recruits jumped ship at the last minute.

Update: 12:40 p.m.: Just to make it completely official, CDO running back Ka’Deem Carey announces he has signed a letter-of-intent to Arizona. We’ll have more from Carey’s press conference and reaction from UA coach Mike Stoops later.

Update: 11:25 a.m.: Arizona athletics tweets that WR Patrick Onwuasor, WR David Richards, DE Reggie Gilbert, RB Jared Baker, ATH Tra’Mayne Bondurant, DE Auwae (Lamar) De Rego and LB Rob Hankins have faxed in letters-of-intent.

Update: 11:15 p.m.: As mentioned below, Arizona State lost out on Tempe Corona del Sol defensive tackle Todd Peat Jr. The four-star recruit signed with Nebraska today over the Sun Devils.

Want to know how crazy this recruiting business is? Here is what Peat told Canyon Allis of WildcatSportsReport.com on why he chose the Cornhuskers over the Sun Devils:

“I was down to ASU and Nebraska. I was pretty much going to choose ASU, but was driving home last night and saw a Nebraska license plate, something I’d never seen before and took it as a sign that I should become a Cornhusker.”

OK then.

Update: 10:40 p.m.: CDO’s Ka’Deem Carey signs with Arizona, according to Chris Bonney of WildcatSportsReport.com

Update: 10:03 a.m.: Arizona picks up good news on National Signing Day as wide receiver Patrick Onwuasor from Inglewood (Calif.) High School, signed with Arizona in a ceremony at his school this morning (as first tweeted by Scout.com.)

Onwuasor, 6-foot-2, also was considering Miami and Arizona State.

Wrote ESPN.com on Onwuasor: “Onwuasor is a very smooth, polished receiver that can play both inside and outside and has been a significant vertical threat at this level. He is a very nice blend of speed, fluid change-of-direction and sharp route running skills.”

He is rated a three-star recruit and the 58th-best player in California by Rivals.com.

UPDATE: 9:51 a.m.: Arizona athletics tweets that linebacker Hank Hobson and defensive end Dame Ndiaye have signed their letters-of-intent with the Wildcats. No surprises so far.

Ndiaye, from Hoover High in San Diego, is a raw, athletic prospect who has played one season of football. Before that, he was known for his basketball prowess (as a Hoover teammate of big man Angelo Chol, who was on a recruiting visit to Arizona last week.)
