Yahoo! Sports: USC coach Kevin O’Neill apologizes for confrontation

by on Mar. 11, 2011, under Arizona basketball

USC coach Kevin O’Neill expressed regret Friday morning for a verbal confrontation involving himself, his wife and an Arizona booster at a Los Angeles hotel Thursday.

“I apologize to the university,” O’Neill said in a phone interview with Yahoo! Sports. “The last thing I’d ever want to do is cause anyone any embarrassment. I’m confident our team won’t let this become a distraction.”

USC takes on Arizona tonight in the semifinals of the Pac-10 tournament at the Staples Center in L.A.

As much as he regrets what happened, O’Neill said an internet version of Thursday’s incident is grossly inaccurate.

Yes, there is a history between KO and Paul. However, I cannot imagine Paul touching off a confrontation or passing any kind of remark that would spark trouble.

So, that leaves the other party.

O’Neil should seek help at the local A.A. in La-La Land. Yeah, yeah he’s Irish and most, but not all, have the genetic proclivity to enjoy the spirits and what not.
Still,  he had the audacity to go after a ” 70 year-old ” SENIOR CITIZEN. Because, it’s one thing to show his machosimo towards a Jamelle Horne with his attitude and words and what not. But a SENIOR CITIZEN! Say it ain’t so.
